FAQ’s

  • Do I need any prior music experience to participate? No! This class is open to anyone who wants to add to their enjoyment of music by learning an instrument. The focus is on accessible learning and engagement rather than technical proficiency, so don’t be intimidated if you’ve never played an instrument before!
  • Will there be opportunities to continue studying harp after the course is over? Definitely. Plans are in the works for a second class that will be a continuation of this beginner class. You can also opt to take private lessons from me or another instructor.
  • Do I need to know how to read music to participate? No, music reading will not be required in this course. However, knowing some basics will be helpful, especially if you wish to continue taking a later class or further private lessons. If you don’t know how and wish to learn, there is an optional add-on to the course – see above for more info.
  • Can you tell me more about the kind of harp that will be provided? The harp is a very small folk harp with 22 strings. It will be assembled from a kit. This harp is an accessible beginner instrument, and is great for playing simple, lovely tunes. If you decide to continue your harp studies, you may wish to explore options for a larger harp down the road, or you might find that this harp is all you need. You can read more about the harp here.
  • What if I already have my own harp? Can I use it instead? Yes, you can choose to provide a harp yourself to use for the class. If you do, the price of the course will be reduced by $250 and you will not be provided with a Fireside harp (The fee for the class if you provide your own harp is $315). If you don’t yet have a harp but wish to procure a different one, it is recommended that you consult with a professional harpist to find one that is the right fit for you.
  • Is there an age requirement/limit for this class? The program is geared towards adults, but high schoolers are welcome to participate. There is no age limit for adults!
  • What if I have to miss a class? Classes will be recorded and made available for participants to review. Missed material can also be covered in the included private lesson.
